State Representative Jason Mumpower
House Majority Leader

State Representative Jason Mumpower is currently serving his seventh term in the Tennessee House of Representatives from district three, which includes a large portion of Sullivan County and all of Johnson County. First elected to office at age 23, Jason currently serves as House Majority Leader, a position to which he was elected by his House Republican colleagues after leading the Caucus to its first legislative majority in history.

Jason Mumpower was born in Bristol, Tennessee on September 22, 1973.

Elected by a 57 percent plurality in 1996, Jason has continued to garner wide vote margins in subsequent elections being returned to Capitol Hill by as much as 86 percent of the vote. He was elected by a landslide 69 percent during the 2002 election after the district was significantly changed by reapportionment. He has been endorsed by a wide variety of groups over the past eleven years, including the National Rifle Association, the Tennessee Education Association, the State Employees Association, the National Federation of Independent Business and the Right to Life organization.

During his tenure, Rep. Mumpower has been a strong advocate for accountability in government spending, more local control over education, TennCare reform and Right to Farm legislation. As a member of the Finance, Ways and Means Committee, Jason has used his business and economic background to make Tennessee a "business friendly and taxpayer friendly" state.

In the House, Jason serves on the Health and Human Resources Committee, the Government Operations Committee and the Finance, Ways and Means Committee. In addition, through his role as Majority Leader, he serves on the Ethics Committee, Rules Committee and the Joint Lottery Oversight Committee and the Joint Tenncare Oversight Committee.

Jason has a reputation for being available to help the people of the third legislative district with a wide variety of state government needs and services. He also continuously conducts public "listening meetings" and questionnaires to get input from constituents on state issues and other legislative concerns. He has been vigilant to make sure the people of his district are informed on legislative business through a number of means like his weekly legislative updates, which are widely distributed.

An Eagle Scout, Jason showed interest in community service at an early age. He is active in many community organizations and projects like the Rotary Club of Bristol, TN/VA and the Chambers of Commerce in Kingsport, Bristol and Johnson County.

Jason has been active in the Republican Party as well, at both the state level and locally, as an active member of both the Sullivan and Johnson County Republican Party Organizations.

A graduate of Bristol Tennessee High School in 1991, Jason continued his education at King College where he graduated in 1995 with a major in Economics and a minor in Political Science. He is employed by The Corporate Image, a Bristol, TN based Public Relations firm.
